Kansas Jaycees Cerebral Palsy Ranch

The purpose of the Kansas Jaycees Cerebral Palsy Ranch is to provide a program which will allow individuals to enjoy their highest level of functioning and independence, consistent with their abilities, in a summer camp setting. Emphasis is given to persons with Cerebral Palsy or similar physical challenges. Founded in 1964, it is one of few such facilities in Kansas serving those with 8 wide range of disabling conditions and provides an opportunity to improve their quality of life through discovery and/or enhancement of social, recreational, and educational life skills.

Campers are encouraged to take part in activities adapted to help them gain confidence and appreciate the value of trying. With the help of counselors, campers enjoy a wide variety of pursuits, many for the first time in their lives. Some of the camp activities include:  horseback riding, swimming, fishing, tent camping, nature study, dramatics, arts and crafts, archery/rifle, sports and games, cookouts, canoeing, and hayrack rides. There are also a wide variety of special events such as dances, talent shows, clowns, and carnivals.

The Ranch has a policy that no camper will be turned away for lack of funds. In other words, we ask the camper or the parents to give only what they can afford. Currently, fewer than 25% of the campers can afford to pay even a portion of the fees, partly due to the exorbitant cost of their medical needs. The Ranch depends on donations from individuals, businesses, foundations, and civic organizations. The Ranch stands as a living testimony to the generosity of scores of caring people.

Keep in mind that your participation in the Firecracker 100 Bike Ride is also helping to fund this wonderful camp for children who may not have the opportunities that our own children have, but who deserve it just as much!
